A message from the Superintendent

Shortly after accepting the superintendent position in the spring of 2018, I began developing a comprehensive entry plan that would guide my work over for the first 90 days. My mission was to connect with stakeholders across our community in order to get a sense of who we are as a community, and who we want to become. As I reflected on the information collected during this period, I noticed three themes that naturally emerged from the data to answer the question, “Who is Watertown?” These themes–Watertown Cares, Watertown Learns, and Watertown Leads–are at the heart of who we are as a community and naturally became the foundation for the development of our District Improvement Plan.

Throughout the 2018-2019 school year, I continued to gather information about the goals and aspirations of our community through ongoing conversations with our Board of Education, district and school-based administrators, teachers and staff, students and families. In November, more than 85 members of our community came together to co-create a long-term vision of where we are heading as a district. These ideas, along with our priorities and goals were presented to our newly-created Student Advisory and Parent Advisory Councils for input and feedback.

Our new District Improvement Plan will serve as our North Star as we collaboratively work to meet the academic, social and emotional needs of our students. I am grateful for the opportunity to lead our community as we work in partnership to realize the Vision of a Watertown Graduate.

Together, we can positively impact EVERY STUDENT in EVERY CLASSROOM, EVERY DAY.
