On Monday, June 11, 2019, the Watertown Board of Education approved the Superintendent’s recommendation to appoint Dr. Janet Parlato as the next principal of Watertown High School. On May 28, 2019, Principal Dan Carroll announced his resignation from Watertown High School effective June 30, 2019 and the position was posted internally. “I was so excited that Dr. Parlato applied for the position and was interested in continuing the great work she began as the interim principal of Watertown High School this past fall,” said Dr. Harrison, Superintendent of Schools.

Dr. Parlato served as Interim Principal prior to Mr. Carroll’s arrival in October and is currently Watertown’s Assistant Superintendent. Prior to becoming the Assistant Superintendent in September 2017, Dr. Parlato served as the Director of Curriculum, Instruction, Assessment, and Professional Development for four years. Before joining Watertown Public Schools, she spent the previous twenty years in Berlin Public Schools as both a teacher and a building administrator. Dr. Parlato is a graduate of the University of Connecticut, where she earned a double Bachelor’s degree in English and Secondary Education and a Master’s degree in Curriculum and Instruction.  Her doctorate is in Educational and Organizational Leadership from the University of Pennsylvania. She is also certified as a superintendent in the State of Connecticut.

Dr. Janet Parlato will begin in her new role on July 1, 2019. “With her experience as a high school teacher and background in curriculum and instruction, Dr. Parlato is perfect candidate to take Watertown High School to the next level,” said Dr. Harrison. “Dr. Parlato is passionate about growing students and working collaboratively with staff and parents. The Board of Education is excited about the future of Watertown High School under her leadership,” said Leslie Crotty, Chair of the Watertown Board of Education. Dr. Parlato reaffirmed her commitment to the district, “This job is not a stepping stone for me. It’s time for me to come back home to high school with a great staff and great students.”
